For our DT topic this term, we created our own locally sources' Shropshire Salad' We practised chopping techniques and tasted new flavours. We even had a visit from chef James Sherwin of the Restaurant 'Wild Shropshire.' The children tasted a range of locally sourced ingredients and also learnt how ants were used to flavour dishes such as ice cream due to their lemony taste. We learnt that this is due to the fact that lemons are not grown locally! Here is a link to his restaurant for more information: www.jamesinaspace.com/ Please comment below to tell us your favourite taste from the visit!

We're having lots of fun creating lots of rainforest art for arts week. Today we followed a tutorial to create Toucans. Here is a clip to create a red eyed tree frog. Have a go and show us what you can do! The children are taking part in lots of exciting home learning activities linked to our topic. We really enjoyed tasting Harry and Anna's creations!

Today in Oak we have been having a go at creating rhyming couplets for our Spring poems. Here are some examples of their ideas. This is one line from each group's poem:
One day I was out for a play, In the magnificent month of May. Archie and Elijah As I was lying in the Spring sky, I found a tie with a pie. Billy and Julia Come to watch the birds flow by up in the glorious sky, The magical playful sky. Lottie, Conor and Ethan As I look into the sky, As I keep looking, I spot a cloud shaped like a pie. By Jimmy and Louis A I peep into the deep blue sky, As I peep my head I spot a spying butterfly By Daisy, Lexie and Evie P In the sky, flowers bloom, There was a relaxing tune. In the sky I saw a butterfly die, As it came back its wings turned black. By Evie D and Kirstie Chicks sing and flap up their wings, Fly back home and never moan. By Anna, Harry M and Violet One day as I get up and play, I see bird flutter away, Then I went to the extremely dark park I got some bark. By Evie T and Alisha As I sit doen to watch the play, They all started to make way, Then I saw a bird fly Up high in the sky. By Darcey and Alex Up into the Spring sky, I spot birds flying high. In the sky I spot a plane, Its colour as orange as a lion's mane By Jack, Jacob and Drum In spring flowers start to bloom, There will be hot sun soon. By Ellie and Kaitlin In the sky I saw a spy in a plane, As a tiger he tried to tame. By Matias and Korey. Spring time, what delight it brings, If you can I bet you can see the time. By Freddie and Harry F This week, the children have been introduced to Rock Star Maths which is on online gaming platform to practise times tables. Children all have a username and password which they have written down in their planners. Here is a link to the website: play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student/9842 Here's a little slideshow of some of the fun things we have been learning this half term so far. We've been finding out about Roman numerals, finding out about poetry techniques such as metaphors, similes and personification and sketching landmarks from Shrewsbury and London as part of our 'Our Great Britain' topic. |
